Information about Clarke’s life outside the White House remains unknown.1 John Clarke briefly worked for George Washington at the President’s House in Philadelphia. He appeared in one household record in April 1795, earning $27.40 “for sundry jo’bs pr bill” or miscellaneous tasks.
