- One of the presidential households we know the least about is that of William Henry Harrison. Not only is documentation scarce but he also only served as president for one month before passing away on April 4, 1841. As a result, only a handful of individuals have been identified as working at the Harrison White House. Within the William Henry Harrison Papers, there is a financial document dated January 1, 1842 listing various expenses. One expense, $2.00 for “Coachman John,” is dated March 15 during Harrison’s brief presidency.1 It is unclear if Harrison brought John with him from Ohio or hired him in Washington, D.C. There is no other known information about this individual at this time.
