- Information about Mary Bailey’s life outside of the President’s House remains unknown. Mary first appears in household accounts related to George Washington’s President’s House in Philadelphia in the spring of 1793. Although her role in the household is not specifically stated, she earned $5.00 per month for her work. This wage is similar to what most housemaids and washerwomen earned and it is possible she held a similar role. Mary left the household in September 1794.1
