- An August 1895 article in the Cincinnati Enquirer highlighted several of the Cleveland family’s servants at the White House, including their African-American cook, Susie. The article noted “…as a cook she is absolutely perfect, especially of fish, which Mr. Cleveland makes the staple of his daily fare.”1 Beyond this article, little is known about Susie including her full name.
