- Information about John Greene’s life outside of the President’s House remains unknown. John Greene worked briefly for George Washington at the President’s House in Philadelphia. In documentation he is referred to not as John, but as Jno Greene or Ja Green. Jno is often a common abbreviation for John. He was likely a contract worker and his role within the household remains unclear. He appears in household records twice, first in July 1794, earning $11.00 for a month of work and again in June 1795, earning $15.00 for five weeks of work.1
