Taylor Z. Henderson

Taylor Zackaris Henderson was born on February 22, 1886 in Loudon, Virginia.¹ On June 14, 1909, he married a woman named Lottie Newman.²

Henderson began working at the White House in 1914. He appears in Washington, D.C. city directories as a footman at the White House from 1914 until 1920, assisting with serving meals and other duties.³ In his free time, Johnson was a member of the Chandelier Club– a social group of African-American White House domestic employees who gathered outside of work.⁴

Following his time at the White House, Henderson worked as a chauffeur and by 1930, he worked as a butler for a private family.⁵
