- Information about Mary Hawkins’ life outside of the President’s House remains unknown. Mary Hawkins was hired by President George Washington on a short-term contract at the President’s House in Philadelphia. She appears in one household record from November 1793 where she earned $15.20 “for whitewashing the house.”1
