- Information about John Puttner’s life outside of the President’s House remains unknown. John Puttner worked for George Washington at the President’s House in Philadelphia. He first appeared in household records in December 1795 earning $11.00 for a month of work. In this entry his last name was spelled Buttner. However, in the following months he was listed as John Puttner. His role in the household is unclear and he did not appear in household records after May 1796.1
