- Information about John Bissex’s life outside of the President’s House remains unknown. Bissex worked for George Washington at the President’s House in Philadelphia. He first appeared in household account records in September 1796, earning $10.00 for a month of work. He continued to appear in the records until his final entry in January 1797.1 His role in the household is unclear.
