- Information about Elizabeth Simpson’s life outside the President’s House remains unknown. (1) Simpson worked for George Washington at the President’s House in Philadelphia. She first appeared in household account records in September 1793. Although her role in the household is not specifically stated, she earned $5.00 per month for her work. This wage is similar to what most housemaids and washerwomen earned and it is possible she held a similar role. Her last entry in the records occurred in May 1795. (2)
