Biography
In September 1929, a man named Alexander Yaffe was detailed to the White House Garage as a footman from the Office of the Postmaster General. In December, Lawrence Richey, secretary to President Herbert Hoover, wrote: “While Mr. Yaffe is an excellent young man as to character, he does not quite fit in with the work assigned to him” and asked to rescind his assignment there, indicating a departure from the White House.
