Information about Mary Leffler’s life outside of the President’s House is currently unknown. Mary Leffler appears once in accounts for George Washington’s household at the President’s House in Philadelphia. In January 1795, she was paid $9.00 for 18 days of work. Her role remains unclear.1
There is a possibility Mary Leffler is the same person as Mary Wilson Loeffler, a housemaid and washerwoman that worked in the household between 1790-1792. In 1792, this individual married a man with the last name Loeffler and left her position at the President’s House. Since the spelling of these two last names are so similar, it is possible Mary Wilson Loeffler briefly returned to the household to fill in.2
