- From 1929-1931, Archie A. Houck was detailed to the White House Garage as a chauffeur. According to a 1931 garage memo, he was detailed from the 29th Motor Transport Co. (part of the Department of the Army) to drive Hoover’s Director of Unemployment Relief Col. Arthur H. Woods. (1) It is unclear how long Houck was detailed to the White House, but during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency, he appears on city directories as a chauffeur for the Works Progress Administration. (2) Further information about his life is limited.
