- Charles Pell Earle was born on December 23, 1871, in New Jersey. (1) He worked for many years with the Office of Public Buildings and Parks, but as early as 1929, he was assigned to the White House under the supervision of Head Gardener Charles Henlock. He may have worked on the White House Grounds or at the White House greenhouses near the Bureau of Engraving and Printing on the National Mall. (2) Little else is known at this time about his tenure at the White House, though he continued to work for the National Capital Parks in the years that followed, making it likely that he was assigned to the White House before or after 1929. (3) Earle died on February 9, 1958, and was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, Maryland. (4)
