- Nolue Martinez was born in South Carolina on January 4, 1890. (1) Little is known about her outside of her service as a kitchen maid at the White House, which began as early as 1940. (2) In this role, she assisted with food preparation and kitchen cleaning duties. Martinez is documented on the White House Kitchen staff through at least 1946; it is possible she was there beyond that time, but documentation is limited. (3) The 1950 Census listed her occupation as maid at the Government Printing Office, suggesting she had left the White House by that time. (4) Nolue Martinez died in August 1975. (5)
