Biography
Archie Leonard Milling was born in Greenwood, South Carolina on October 25, 1914. (1) Prior to World War II, he worked as a cab driver in Washington, D.C., but during the war, he served in the U.S. Army at the War Department headquarters in Washington, D.C. For at least part of this time, he seems to have been assigned to the White House, as a 1944 staff roster includes him as a chauffeur in the White House Garage. (2) Further information about his White House service is limited, but after the war, he and his wife Annette lived in Alexandria, Virginia, and owned and operated a tour company called Milling Sightseeing Agency. (3) Milling died on September 7, 1973. (4)
