Wilford G. Frame

Wilford George Frame was born in Tesla, West Virginia, on September 28, 1916.¹ As an adult, Frame moved to Front Royal, Virginia and worked in Washington, D.C. at the Stone Straw Company and later the National Chemical Plant; he also served in the Army during World War II.² 

Around 1960, Frame joined the White House staff as a carpenter. He would go on to spend nineteen years there, eventually becoming assistant foreman in the carpentry shop.³ During his years of service, he took on a variety of tasks for first families, including the construction of First Daughter Amy Carter’s treehouse and the repair of her doll furniture.⁴ Wilford Frame’s son, Milton Frame, also worked at the White House, first on the grounds and Bouquet Room staff and later alongside his father as a carpenter.⁵ Wilford Frame was also a charter member of the White House Mansion Staff Open, a golf tournament hosted by and for members of the Executive Residence staff.⁶ 

Wilford Frame retired from the White House in late 1978 or early 1979.⁷ He died on January 6, 1999, and was buried at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, Virginia.⁸
