Biography
Information about Katy Bower’s life outside of the President’s House is currently unknown. Katy began working for George Washington at the President’s House in Philadelphia around June 1792. It is unclear exactly what her role in the household was, but she earned $10.00 per month.1 She left the household in April 1793.2 Several months later, there is a household record for a Katy Maloy: “House expenses pd. Katy Maloy for working 6 days in June last.”3 It is possible that Katy Bower got married after leaving the President’s House and then returned to work for six days as Katy Maloy, though this cannot be verified.
