- Information about John Nattle’s life outside of the President’s House remains unknown. He appears once in George Washington’s records at the President’s House in Philadelphia. He was referred to as Jno. Nattle, a common abbreviation for John, earning $10.00 for a month’s wages in March 1797. Although his role in the household is undefined, it is possible he was hired to help prepare for the first family to move back to Mount Vernon at the conclusion of Washington’s presidency.1
